When Satire goes too far!

Satire is made up of parody's, puns, and other rhetorical appeals in the attempt to send a message to society. However, what happens when satire is taken too far and the message is lost. Well it becomes racial and upsets many people. Episodes such as Family Guy and Boondocks are examples of such shows which contain many satirical terms. In one episode of Family Guy, a black man gets pulled over by the cops and while the cops are issuing a ticket for whatever they believe he did, a bunch of terrorists drive by in a huge van carrying weapons of mass destruction. However, because the cops were so caught up in the black guy, they failed to see it. The sicial commentary being made is that cops miss the big threats because they are so focused on what one would call "the usual targets". This is an expamle of satire. It is sending a mesage to society. However, on another episode Peter marks his land as his own country. When reporters flud his house and speaks to his wife, asking questions pertainign to this newly established country, his wife states that it consists of only "clean citizens...whites." This is not an example of satire but is a mockery. Shows must be careful when saying such things because it upsets some viewers. There is a fine line between satire and mockery.
